Aspberger syndrome is a social interaction disorder that falls under the autism umbrella, but isn’t accompanied by any delay in cognitive development. I’ve considered the possibility that I have it a few times given the fact that I seem to have a lot of trouble in social situations. However, based on the descriptions of Aspies, I think if I do have it, it’s very mild. I think this may be one of those cases where a simpler explanation is called for. If you don’t practice something (in my case, social interaction), how can you expect to be good at it? It may even be a little insulting to people with real Aspberger syndrome to suggest that I have it. Who knows, since I don’t want to see a shrink about it.
So I took a quiz and the results indicate that I’m very likely an Aspie. Of course I have no idea how reliable the test is, not being a psychologist, but it was interesting. There is also an edgy theory about neanderthals espoused on a different part of that site. So if you take the quiz, take it with the appropriate amount of skepticism. I have admitted before that quizzes are my guilty pleasure.

My Aspie score is 29 of 200. The results indicate I am very likely neurotypical.
I have a buddy who presents several Aspie symptoms and he took a test like this and scored high as well. He is also a professional computational linguist (Hmmmm? Connection?). He has two linguistic behaviors that I find odd (and frankly, a tad annoying, no offense).
1) He will walk into my office and stare at the floor for a couple minutes without saying anything. Apparently he is figuring out how to start saying what he wants to say. He also has trouble understanding when a conversation has logically ended. He’ll stick around in silence (staring at the floor again) then pick up the topic again rather randomly or start a new one.
2) He will switch topics suddenly, mid-conversation, without warning or purpose.
I don’t know if these are Aspie related, but it’s clearly not a random personality quirk. I’m convinced it’s neurological.
Well that site would probably classify that as Aspie behavior, based on what I read. I don’t regularly do either of those, though I probably have done them before.
My wife pointed out to me tonight that I always think something is wrong with me (ADHD in the past, Aspberger’s now). It’s good to have someone to act as a sanity check when you’re as crazy as I am.
Hi! I think that could be Aspie traits. But if we are not specialists about developmental or other disorders, we can’t tell for secure he’s got this.
Anyway, I did this Aspie test, and I scored quite high, 167 out of 200 and it was written : “You are very likely an Aspie”.
Of course I am, I have been diagnosed as an Aspie.
So, I believe that there is a little truth about this test.
I’ve taken that quiz a couple of times. Once I was labeled NT (but only just, I think that time I was a bit above 100) and the second time I was labeled an Aspie (~150 that time IIRC). My conclusion is I am on the spectrum but not as impaired as I might have been. There are professionally diagnosed Aspies among my closest relatives so that’s another possible clue in my case.

Your Aspie score: 169 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 40 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie
Should I be worried? I’ve never heard of this before someone that I have known for almost 14 years jokingly called me “Aspie” because of my odd behavior. I just started looking it up today and found some websites describing “me.” I don’t know what or if I should be doing anything about this???
